Joseph Kihara is a highly accomplished professional with a strong academic background and extensive experience in consulting and advisory services. He holds a Master’s degree in Finance and Investments from Wits Business School, along with a Bachelor of Science degree and an Honours qualification in Actuarial Science.
His expertise spans due diligence, financial modelling, data analysis, and forecasting. With hands-on experience and a keen understanding of complex financial landscapes, Joseph continuously adapts to industry trends. He is also highly skilled in stakeholder management and engagement, fostering productive relationships that drive strategic objectives.
At AIA, Joseph has played a key role in driving strategic financial and policy initiatives. He led the development of a business case for an entity aimed at increasing financing for large-scale infrastructure projects by leveraging concessional funding to lower investment risks and ease the fiscal burden on governments. This initiative, which involved advising the National Treasury on establishing an office dedicated to infrastructure financing, highlights his ability to craft innovative financial solutions that align public and private sector interests to unlock investment at scale. Additionally, he has contributed to a study on liquid fuels and co-led the development of a renewable energy strategy and action plan for a Provincial Government in South Africa. His involvement in these projects reflects his commitment to advancing Africa’s transition to sustainable energy solutions and addressing critical funding gaps in infrastructure.
Beyond infrastructure finance, Joseph has contributed to impact-driven projects across Africa. His work with organisations such as the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation, the Jakes Gerwel Foundation, and Old Mutual Group underscores his commitment to fostering entrepreneurship, education, and leadership development. In addition to his policy and infrastructure work, Joseph is currently involved in three due diligence and capital-raising projects, two for a real estate-focused entities and another for a local internet service provider (ISP). These projects showcase his ability to evaluate investment opportunities, structure financing solutions, and drive capital allocation in high-growth sectors across Africa.
